A hybrid strength and running session is a single workout that alternates running segments with strength stations or blocks, with the order, rest and RPE that you define. It's used to prepare hybrid events (such as Hyrox) or simply so the athlete works both stimuli on the same day without switching between two apps.
TrainingForever is a Spanish platform for endurance and strength coaches: free up to 5 active athletes; after that, 0,99 € per active athlete per month, maximum 49 €/month. The coach leads, the AI Assistant helps.
Complement this guide with how to plan Hyrox and with strength for runners.
What is a hybrid session?
A hybrid session is a single session in the calendar in which you mix running blocks (time, distance, pace or zone) with strength exercises (sets, reps, tempo, rest). It's not "a run in the morning and strength in the afternoon": it's a continuous stimulus with controlled transitions.

How do you order running and strength?
The order depends on the goal of the day. Three common patterns:
| Pattern | Sequence | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Running → stations | Running warm-up, pace blocks, stations under fatigue | Simulate the end of a hybrid event |
| Stations → running | Strength first, running after | Prioritise the quality of the strength movement |
| Interleaved | Running segment + station + run + station… | Rehearse the Hyrox-style format |
Write down the rest between blocks and the target RPE. The athlete will see it on their phone and you'll receive the actual RPE and the comment in their profile.

How do you turn it into a template?
- Build the hybrid session with all the steps.
- Save it as a template with a clear name (for example "Hybrid 6 stations · build").
- Reuse it in the week or within a block.
- When applying it to another athlete, review thresholds and loads.

What does the athlete see on their phone?
The athlete opens the day's session on their phone: they see the order of the blocks, the videos of the strength exercises and can log how it went. The changes you publish reach them instantly.

How do you use feedback and load?
After the session, the post-session form collects RPE and a comment. In the profile you look at Total Load (CT), Chronic Adaptation (AC), Acute Fatigue (FA) and Load Differential (DC) to decide whether the next hybrid session keeps density or reduces volume. No invented figures: you decide with what comes in from each athlete.
Frequently asked questions
What is hybrid strength and running training?
It's programming running and strength stimuli in an ordered way, in the same session or the same microcycle. The hybrid session concentrates both in a single workout with defined transitions.
Can I save a hybrid session as a template?
Yes. You build it once, save it in the template library and reuse it across weeks and blocks, adapting thresholds per athlete.
Does the athlete see the exercise videos?
Yes. In the strength or hybrid session they can open the video for each exercise on their phone before the set.
How do I log the RPE of a hybrid session?
With the post-session form: the athlete enters RPE and a comment; the response stays linked to that session in their profile.
Is it only for Hyrox?
No. Hyrox is a frequent use case, but the hybrid session also fits runners who add strength on the same day or boxes that program running + stations.
